Writing Out Your Culture - Adi Klevit - Fractional C-Suite Retreat - Episode #45
Tuesday Oct 25, 2022
Tuesday Oct 25, 2022
Today's guest is someone with 25 years of knowledge and experience as a management consultant and business executive. Adi Klevit is the host of the “Systems Simplified” podcast and the Founder and CEO of Business Success Consulting Group. Adi joins Joe to explore how marketing plays a role in hiring, how to embed your values in your company culture, and how to manage a remote team.
Takeaways:
- To hire the right people, you need to know how to differentiate yourself from the rest of the field.
- There are many ways to stand out in your job postings. Videos can be attention-grabbing and give you a chance to highlight things like your core values.
- Cohesive company culture is essential to a high retention rate. It’s not enough to write your core values on a doc that gets buried away, you need to live your culture and values.
- When defining your core values, using a single word or sentence isn’t enough. Define them in what they mean to you, give examples, and tell the story behind each value. Ask your team what each value means to them.
- A high-performing team is one way to measure a successful culture. Strong culture leads to strong results.
- Your employee handbook should cover rules, regulations, and policies. All companies should also have a cultural handbook that details the culture and what it means to be a part of that organization.
- A strong, well-defined structure is key to a successful remote organization. Meetings should be intentional and well-defined, and each attending member should know why they are attending.
Quote of the Show:
- “How can you be successful unless you have team members?” - Adi Klevit

Join us in welcoming a new yorCMO team member on this week’s episode of The Fractional C-Suite Retreat. Stacy Kamigaki is a marketing expert with over 25 years of experience, someone who strongly believes in team collaboration, and yorCMO’s newest Fractional CMO. Stacy joins host Joe Frost to explore how insights from the customer experience team can help marketing with lead gen, discuss using data to drive decisions, and explain how to apply a marketing lens to hiring.
Takeaways:
- C-suites need to build more intelligence into their companies and leverage data to make decisions and share insights with the team.
- Effective usage of data can help two different departments work together more efficiently. When your marketing and finance teams can look at a situation more objectively, there is less push and pull.
- If marketers can use data to demonstrate the value of their programs, they will increase credibility and trust between themselves and the leadership team.
- While there is a focus on the buying habits of new customers, it is important to also consider the motivations of current customers who bought in the past.
- While many would assume that marketing’s only job is to generate new leads, marketing also exists to extend client lifetime value by reducing churn.
- Instead of focusing solely on how you can get new customers, consider how you can add new services for existing customers.
- How you market your company and products will affect who applies to your company.

Creating Cultural Moments - Neil Emeigh - Fractional C-Suite Retreat - Episode # 43
Wednesday Oct 12, 2022
Wednesday Oct 12, 2022
Today’s guest is a business owner and powerful leader of a remote-first company who is passionate about building a well-rounded company. Neil Emeigh is the CEO of Rayobyte. On this week’s episode host Joe Frost sits down with his good friend Neil to talk about creating a culture in a remote work environment and how to best support remote employees.
Takeaways:
- While tools and processes have caught up to a remote work style, company culture has yet to adapt fully.
- While online calendars have made it easy to schedule meetings with coworkers, it has made it that much easier to interrupt someone’s productivity. Meetings show up on a schedule, tasks don’t.
- In a remote business, having in-person events that workers from all over can come to is essential. In-person yearly retreats or kickoff events should be a mandatory expense on your budget.
- There is immense value in finding time to meet with clients in person if possible. In-person meetings often lead to stronger client relationships and better client referrals.
- In a remote environment, support for your employees will differ in both the support provided and how you let them know they are supported.
- As a remote company, establishing and emphasizing your core values will help unify employees and give a clearer sense of direction for leadership.
- If you take a step back and delegate when leading employees, you give them space to flourish in their roles and have an increased sense of agency.
Quote of the Show:
- “How does the team know that we really do have their back? How do we embody that connection?” - Neil Emeigh

Today's guest got his start in particle physics and now coaches businesses. He has a focus on helping businesses deliver cleaner products and greener services. Garrick Villaume is Owner and Principal at Physical Systems Inc. Garrick and Joe chat on this week’s episode about creating a people-focused business environment, and how businesses can create a better world for those to come.
Takeaways:
- Overtracking of actions taken by workers is ultimately going to hurt businesses.
- The use of technology in business has as many potential benefits as it does potential consequences. When implementing technology, it is important to not let positives blind us to potential misuse.
- The main focus of business should be to make the world a better place for those to come.
- All businesses, organizations, technologies, and processes begin and end with people.
- While many businesses may tout their values, they also need to live and act through their values.
- When working with a global workforce, you need to make sure you communicate information in a way that can be understood.
- It’s important to not let best hold better hostage. While you may want to do your best work, it’s crucial to not let that get in the way of implementing options that are better than what you currently have.

Today’s guest is a former athlete who developed a more approachable and intelligent way to train the everyday fitness enthusiast that has seen success with franchises from coast to coast. He’s the host of the podcast “Playing Guilty” and is the Co-founder and Chief Concept Officer of MADabolic. Welcome to the show Brandon Cullen. Brandon joins host Joe Frost to talk about how the fitness industry changed during covid, finding the balance between in-person and remote services, and how Brandon created a successful fitness brand.
Takeaways:
- One of the biggest opportunities across almost every industry will be for those who can bring back in-person human connection and do it well.
- While the pandemic created a new wealth of digital offerings for many industries, people should be less argumentative about which style is better, and acknowledge the value of both remote and in-person options.
- While there are a lot of businesses in the fitness industry, many of them are quite similar and lack an effective structure to make their clients better on a daily basis.
- While the norm in the fitness industry has been to push more and more cardio, strength training and resistance training help keep you stable and balanced as you age.
- One challenge with franchising is finding the balance between addressing the different needs of customers in different areas and keeping a consistent brand image at every location.
- A good way to lead is to do your due diligence upfront, and put people in roles they excel at. Give them enough freedom to screw up, but hold them accountable.
- While a bit of ego helps move the needle and drive progress, a good leader needs to balance out their ego with empathy for their team.

Today’s guest is someone who provides emerging and growing brands with the legal support they need, resources to grow, and strategies to win at franchising. He has over 25 years of experience working with over 200 franchise brands and is the publisher of numerous franchise compliance and registration guides. Charles Internicola is the Founder of The Internicola Law Firm. Charles joins host Joseph Frost on this week’s episode to explore building authentic branding focused on your internal culture, and how to be a responsive leader who creates a thriving organization.
Takeaways:
- C-suite professionals need to pay attention to their branding. Your brand, good or bad, influences your culture and by extension your team.
- Branding comes from all aspects of your company, but it needs to start with your team.
- Developing a strong brand takes time and effort, but the end result is an authentic, strong, brand and culture.
- A good leader looks out for their team and takes action to show that they are willing to support the team.
- A brand is more than just the outward appearance of the company, it also includes the internal interactions between your team members.
- Creating growth and a thriving organization doesn’t come from the leader, but the value of having everyone together. Unify the team, align the goals and trajectory, and support everyone.
- Successful leadership should result in a feeling of pride and accomplishment at the growth and advancement of your employees.
Quote of the Show:
- “For me, brand, it's not just the marketing or the outward perception, but it's also all those internal communications with your team.” - Charles Internicola

Today’s guest wants to help you build a sales culture of success. He's a sales coach and leader who has refined thousands of salespeople into high-performing sales professionals. Karl Schaphorst is the President and Owner of Sandler Sales and Management Training in Omaha, Nebraska. Karl joins host Joe Frost on this week’s episode to talk about hiring the right people, the merits of a fractional system, and how sales teams need to be taking advantage of virtual meetings.
Takeaways:
- When customers are having problems, they talk to salespeople. Salespeople bring solutions.
- When you relegate your salespeople to other roles, not only will your demand eventually slow down, but they will forget the skills they developed, making it harder to generate more demand.
- Fractional sales roles run the risk of losing interest and excitement in the multiple clients you are working for.
- When hiring salespeople look for “Patriots” not “Mercenaries”. Mercenaries will deliver you the minimum task required, while patriots will strive to accomplish their task because they believe in what they are doing.
- Fractional and Part Time are different. While a fractional professional spends time at multiple organizations, you need to be full-time committed to being a fractional professional.
- As a salesperson, leverage the power of virtual meetings. Virtual meetings let you be more efficient, and your competition will be using them.
- When leveraging virtual meetings, make sure your presentation of yourself is high quality. Dress well, and have a decent camera and microphone.
Quote of the Show:
“Make sure that the habits that build a business are not quickly forgotten, but are strengthened every day.” - Karl Schaphorst

This week’s guest has been studying sales and communication skills since 1997. He's building a network of leaders and business owners who support each other and created the resistance removal sales system. Mike Irving is the Founder and Elite Performance Business Coach at Advanced Business Abilities. Mike joins the show this week all the way from Perth, Australia, to talk with Joe about establishing a mindset for successful leadership, setting realistic goals for yourself, and getting rid of frustration.
Takeaways
- We all have to deal with irate customers or frustrating meetings. When you feel that moment approaching, take time to collect your thoughts and take a deep breath.
- Taking “extreme ownership” over the things you do is the first step to developing your thoughts, behaviors, and attitudes.
- To make changes, you must first be willing to confront the things that need to be changed.
- There are two types of goals: objective goals which are specific and measurable, and subjective goals which are not measurable and result in moving goal posts.
- The five phrases that lead to expectations are: have to, need to, should, gotta, and must.
- When you have an expectation of what should happen, and you don't hit it, frustration sets in, and you become unable to think clearly or communicate effectively.
- No matter how advanced technology gets, there will always be a need for human-to-human interaction.

Simon Chappuzeau is the Founder and Managing Director of StoryLux. He’s built communities from the ground up, starting in the film industry, and is currently building communities focused on the blockchain and coaching entrepreneurs. He specializes in bringing people together both virtually and in person. Simon joins host Joseph Frost on this week’s episode to talk about overcoming the challenges of building online communities, creating authentic connections, and understanding the right time to reach out.
Takeaways:
- When developing your marketing strategy, don’t reinvent the wheel. Working with an expert in the field who understands your product and needs will be easier than figuring it out yourself.
- If you really want to help people get what they want to be done, start from a place of genuine interest and curiosity. Once you identify the problem and how it affects them, you can begin to solve it.
- When building a community, many people prioritize the number of members rather than the value their members get. A community of 50 where each member gets value is stronger than a community of 5000 where very few get value.
- While building a community online can be challenging, the ability to connect with members outside of your immediate geographic community is a major advantage.
- When choosing a platform for your community, don't focus on features alone. The best platform is the one that best brings out the personality of your community members.
- While your prospect may be a good fit for your product, they might not be ready to speak to you. It’s ok to circle back with them at a more opportune time.
- While community building takes more time compared to setting up Google ads, a community can carry its own momentum, an ad campaign cannot.
Quote of the Show:
- “Is the person you are trying to reach out to ready to speak to you? Are they ready for what you have to offer?”
